Common questions
How much is an inground pool in Beaumont?
Two local builders publish their numbers. Acadian Pools in Orange sells custom pools in packages of $65,000–85,000, $85,000–105,000 and $105,000–125,000 and up (Acadian). Platinum Pools, which has a Beaumont office on Dowlen Road, shows finished pools from about $50,000 to past $125,000 (Platinum). Our calculator puts most pools here at $55,000–100,000 before the deck and fence.
What is the least expensive kind of pool?
A vinyl liner pool has the lowest sticker price. It gives some of that back later, since liners wear out and get replaced, while a fiberglass shell costs more at the start and the least to look after (This Old House). Few Golden Triangle builders sell vinyl, so ask before you count on it.
Gunite or fiberglass on Beaumont clay?
Gunite is what most builders around here sell, and a concrete shell can be shaped and reinforced for heavy clay. Fiberglass installs in less time and has a slick finish that algae struggle to hold on to, but you'll find fewer installers in the area. On either one, ask how the crew prepares the base under the shell.
Will the clay crack my pool?
It can if it is ignored. The Beaumont soil series, first mapped in Jefferson County, is a dense clay that cracks open when dry and swells when wet (USDA). Builders deal with it by digging deeper, laying crushed stone or select fill under the shell, and sloping water away from the deck. A slow leak is the bigger danger, because it keeps wetting the clay.
Is groundwater a problem here?
In late winter, often. USDA says League clay, common across Southeast Texas, holds perched water 6–30 in below the surface from January to March (USDA). A crew digging then may need a pump running in the hole. Ask for a hydrostatic relief valve in the floor drain.
Can I empty the pool to clean it?
Not without the builder. Wet clay and a high water table push up on an empty shell, and a light fiberglass pool can rise out of the ground. Pool pros here lower the water only partway, and only when the ground is dry.
What should I do with the pool before a hurricane?
Keep it full; Pentair puts it plainly: "Pools are designed to be full at all times." Shock the water, switch off the breakers for the pump, heater and lights, and if flooding looks likely, unhook the pump and store it somewhere high (Pentair). Bring chairs and toys indoors.
Who issues pool permits in Beaumont?
The city's Building Codes Division, 801 Main St, Suite 201, (409) 880-3100, through its online portal. Beaumont builds to the 2021 International Residential Code (City of Beaumont). Port Arthur, Nederland, Port Neches, Groves and the Orange County towns each run their own office.
I live outside city limits. Who do I ask?
In unincorporated Jefferson County, Environmental Control at 7933 Viterbo Rd, (409) 719-5910. The county asks to hear from you before any man-made change to land, including grading and fill, and wants an elevation certificate in A flood zones (Jefferson County). Call them about your pool before the dig.
How tall does the pool fence need to be?
Texas law adopts Appendix G of the 2012 International Residential Code as the residential pool code for cities that have a building code, and lets cities amend it (Local Gov't Code ch. 761). Appendix G calls for a barrier at least 48 in high with gates that shut and latch on their own. Your city office has the final word.
Does Texas license pool builders?
No. Texas has no state license for building residential pools, so check reviews, references, insurance and past permits yourself. The electrical side is different: pool wiring needs a licensed electrician or a TDLR Residential Appliance Installer (TDLR).
Will insurance cover a screen enclosure?
In Jefferson County, maybe not automatically. TWIA lists metal screen enclosures as property it doesn't cover unless the cage has its own WPI-8 windstorm certificate and is listed on your policy (TWIA). Orange and Hardin counties sit outside the TWIA first tier (TDI), so ask your own insurer.
When should I start?
Sign over the winter and dig from February to April. Those are among the driest months at the Beaumont–Port Arthur airport, with about 3–4 in of rain each, against nearly 7 in a month from June to September (NOAA). A spring dig usually means swimming by early summer.
Is Beaumont Pool Builders a pool company?
No. We are a free referral service. We send your request to one local builder, who visits your yard and gives you a quote. The builder may pay us for the introduction; it costs you nothing.
